Rotax EVO upgrade introduction and other karting news

After an importers meeting at MSA on Friday the 23rd of January things are back on track with EVO upgrades and MSA's approval of the upgrade and immediate implementation still stands. The regulations in the 2015 MSA karting handbook are correct and the full technical rules can be viewed on www.kart.co.za or www.rotax-kart.com.

INTRODUCTION OF ROTAX EVO ENGINES AND UPGRADING OF EXISTING ROTAX ENGINES

Rotax introduced the FR125 Max in 1997 and during the past 17 years this has been the backbone of karting. The Junior version was introduced in 2002. Only a different cylinder fitted to the Senior FR 125 Max. The DD2 two-speed motor was introduced in 2003. Subsequent to that the Mini and Micro Max options were added. There are still only two basic engines – the FR125 Max and the DD2.

There have been running changes over the years - always with a view to improved reliability and reduced running costs - but the basic design has remained unchanged.
