Kart racing organized under the MSA umbrella is divided into specific age, weight and speed categories to suit youngsters as they grow. This ensures a safe and exciting progression from 5 years onwards.
Internationally most countries choose this Italian manufactured 50cc Comer powered Top Kart Blue Boy which is ideally sized for 5 to 9 – year old super hero’s! This is the first step on the ladder to F1 and a path followed by most racers from Ayton Senna to Lewis Hamilton. Aptly named “Bambino Class” to follow the international trend.
The lightweight kart has a wheelbase of 77cm which fits the 5 to 9-year old’s perfectly without modifications or adaptations required. A minimum weight of 74 kg (of kart and driver as raced) and just less than 3 bhp this kart provides the ideal balance between performance and safety.
These were once known as “Baby karts” or “Cadets” in South Africa but they developed a reputation as being a specialist tuner’s class. The engine spec was however completely revised in 2017 resulting in a user-friendly and very economical-to-run package. Engines are sealed by authorised service centres to ensure a high standard of preparation and fair play.
