Highlights from a Stormy Day at Killarney: The RMC Western Province Kart Championships saw everything from intense DD2 showdowns to emerging young talent.

Despite enduring a stormy day at Killarney, the Rotax karters showcased their resilience and delivered an exhilarating sixth round of the RMC Western Province Kart Championships on Saturday.

DD2

In the Premier DD2 gearbox category, Jason Coetzee triumphed over Sebastian Boyd with a two-to-one victory in the heats. The two drivers displayed exceptional skill, with barely a centimetre separating them on the track. Jaden Jacobs also put on an impressive performance, securing third place while fending off challenges from Reza Levy and Rafe Tayler.

DD2 MASTERS

In the Masters category, Jared and Michael Jordan flanked first-place finisher Conor Hughes in the top three. Robert Peche had a noteworthy fourth-place finish, followed by Andrew Thomas and Niel Lambrechts, who cleverly secured the Masters pole in the morning through strategic planning on a drying track.

SENIOR MAX

Tate Bishop made a strong return to karting in Senior Max, dominating the field. He allowed Matthew Wadeley, Oliver Roach, and Ethan Stier to share the second-place honors, while Julius Schwager and Zac Laden pursued closely. We extend our best wishes to F1600 driver Storm Lanfear and Oliver Roach, who experienced a serious crash in Race 3, resulting in a red flag. We hope for a swift recovery for both of these Rotax Senior Max drivers.

JUNIOR MAX

In the high school Junior Max category, rookie Keagan Beaumont claimed victory after a series of thrilling races, sharing wins with Jordon Wadeley and William Marshall. Ethan Deacon secured the second position, followed by James Nash and Cole Hewetson while Matthew Chiwara made a welcome return to racing.

MINI MAX

In primary school action, Keagan Beaumont continued his success by winning the opening two races in the under-13 Mini Max category. Michael Danks and Aiden Beaumont took the second and third positions, while rookie Franco Bensch surprised everyone with a standout performance, finishing first in the final race. He secured fourth place overall, ahead of Nicolas Lennox and Matthew Roach.

MICRO MAX

In the under-11 Micro Max category, Michael O’Mahoney secured two wins to Liam Wharton’s one, earning him the overall victory for the day. Jayden van der Merwe impressed with a third-place finish, followed by Zac Hindley, Kiyaan Reddi, and Ruan Lewis.

BAMBINO

The baby Bambino category saw Michael O’Mahoney emerge as the winner after successfully holding off second and third race winner Yaqeen Gamieldien. Radhi Harris secured third place, with Carter Cedras closely behind, and Caleb Lingeveldt and Slater Smith in pursuit.

Looking ahead, RMC Karting shifts its focus to the African Open event at Zwartkops by the end of the month, where winners will have the opportunity to earn a wildcard seat for December’s prestigious ‘Olympics of Karting,’ the RMC Grand Finals in Bahrain. Cape drivers will return to action for round 7 at Killarney on October 28th.
