Close racing, fraught dices at Pretoria kart regional
The Gauteng Rotax Max Challenge karting season continued with more great racing at the fifth round Northern Regionals at a chilly Zwartkops International Kart Raceway on Saturday.
Cape lad Jason Coetzee skipped the Investchem Formula 1600 races in East London to further his aims of scoring maximum points in his premier class 2024 Northern Regions DD2 title chase. It was not to be however, as local lad Olerato Sekudu beat Jason two races to one to take the day. Dusan Radojevic ended third from Gabriel Fernandez, Justin Rogers and Marno Kruger, as Rogers beat Carlo Gil to DD2 Masters honours.
Mauro Da Luz enjoyed a day he will never forget as he dominated Senior Max. Brandon van der Walt overcame a close fight with Kian Spies, Liam Polome, Nielsen Marx and Jordan Moodley for second. Luke Hill shared the high school Junior Max wins two to one with Jack Moore to take the day. Emma Dowling followed from Georgia Lenaerts, Amani Kinyua and Cristian Verheul.
Tshepang Shisinwana took two Primary School Mini Max wins to Durelle Goodman’s one to take under-13 Mini Max. Brodi Dowling edged Rafael De Sousa for third from Aaryan Singh and Ronaldo Koen. Matthew Shuttleworth went unbeaten in under-11 Micro Max as he left Luhan de Wet, Adriaan Steyn, Luke du Toit, Ronald venter and Kireev Chetty to fight over the crumbs.
Alonzo De Oliveira took the baby Bambino day two heats to one from Cape interloper Radhi Harris. Sebastien Shuttleworth enjoyed a strong day in third from Anash Madikane, Aston Verheul, Liam de Beer, Enzokuhle Ncwane, and Kiaan Pillay. Rotax Max hosts a double Gauteng and Cape regional double header at Zwartkops and Killarney, respectively Saturday 17 August. Before the all-important South African National finals back at Zwartkops on Saturday 31 August.
