Drama right till the last at the WP Regional RMC Kart Championships
On a picturesque late spring day, Cape’s Rotax Max karting enthusiasts gathered at Killarney to determine the Western Province champions in their regional finals. Sebastian Boyd claimed the DD2 championship, Connor Hughes secured the closely contested DD2 Masters title, and Charl Visser emerged as the Senior Max champion. William Marshall triumphed in the Junior Max category, Keagan Beaumont clinched Mini Max, and Michael O’Mahoney proudly held both the 2023 Cape Micro Max and Bambino titles.
DD2 + Masters
In the DD2 category, Sebastian Boyd triumphed over Jason Coetzee with two races to one victory, securing both DD2 honours and the overall title. Meanwhile, in the DD2 Masters heats, Jared Jordan led Conor Hughes and Michael Jordan in all three races. The competition was fierce, resulting in a tie between Conor and Jared in points and race wins. Hughes ultimately claimed the championship through a countback to second places.
SENIOR MAX
Charl Visser showcased dominance in the Senior Max category, comfortably securing the title. Tate Bishop took second place, followed by Zac Laden, Matthew Wadeley, Ethan Stier, and Oliver Roach.
JUNIOR MAX
Jordon Wadeley celebrated an overall victory in the high school Junior Max category, overcoming challenges faced by William Marshall who ended the season as the 2023 Junior Max champion. Keagan Beaumont followed from Matthew Chiwara, Ethan Deacon, and Cole Hewetson as Marshall took the title.
MINI MAX
Keagan Beaumont emerged victorious in the under-13 Mini Max category, defeating brother Aiden in a two-to-one race. Michael Danks secured third place over Nicolas Lennox, Matthew Roach, and Aleksandar Praizovic.
MICRO MAX
In the under-11 Micro Max heats, Michael O’Mahoney outperformed Liam Wharton to steal the title. Kiyaan Reddi consistently secured third place, while Zac Hindley won the battle for fourth over Carter Cedras and Ashaan Reddi.
BAMBINO
Michael O’Mahoney continued his success with a double-double in the Bambino category, achieving a triple victory and claiming the ’23 baby title. Yaqeen Gamieldien shared second places with Radhi Harris, while Caleb Lingeveldt, Slater Smith, and Carter Cedras chased them to the finish line.
With the conclusion of the South African RMC regional karting season for 2023, attention now turns to the ‘Olympics of Karting’ in Bahrain. The South African RMC Grand Finals team is fully prepared and eagerly awaits the opportunity to compete on the international stage.
