Cape Town’s Rotax Max karting enthusiasts concluded their preparations for the upcoming National Finals in Pretoria with a successful regional event at their home track, Killarney, on Saturday. The fifth round of regional races was held with great enthusiasm as the anticipation of the big weekend at Zwartkops grew.

DD2

Jason Coetzee, a leading contender in the Investchem Formula 1600 series, triumphed over the initial race victor Sebastian Boyd in the premier gearbox class DD2. Coetzee secured victory in the second and third races, securing his position at the top. Joseph Oelz secured second place twice, ultimately claiming third overall. Young talent Reza Levy, along with Jaden Jacobs and Rafe Tayler, followed suit. Jared Jordan dominated the DD2 Masters category with two wins, while Conor Hughes managed one, resulting in Jordan taking the overall victory ahead of a superb Neville Chapman in third, Michael Jordan, Andre Steenkamp, and Johan Hamman as they showcased their skills.

SENIOR MAX

Charl Visser, leading the National CompCare Polo Cup championship, experienced a trouble-free day in Rotax karting, securing a dominant triple victory in the Senior Max category. He outperformed competitors such as Matthew Wadeley, Ethan Stier, F1600 racer Storm Lanfear, Zac Laden, and GTC racer Andrew Rackstraw, who also participated.

JUNIOR MAX

In the Junior Max division, William Marshall’s progress led him to clinching the overall trophy with two race wins, to the one of Keagan Beaumont. Joshua Smit was up next ahead of Jordon Wadeley who endured a challenging day in the saddle, and James Nash finished ahead of Ethan Deacon to round out the top six.

MINI MAX

Keagan Beaumont put on an impressive performance in the under-13 Mini Max category too, claiming three consecutive wins. His brother Aiden faced a slightly tougher challenge in second place, followed by Franco Bensch, Nicholas Lennox, Matthew Roach, and Michael Danks.

MICRO MAX

In the under-11 Micro Max category, Michael O’Mahoney rebounded from a fourth-place start to secure victories in the second and third races, earning himself the overall win ahead of standout performer Ruan Lewis and Jayden van der Merwe. Liam Wharton had a troubled day in fourth ahead of Zac Hindley and Carter Cedras.

BAMBINO

Bambino victory for the day went to Micro Max winner O’Mahoney as he double up on first place silverware . Yaqeen Gamieldien maintained consistent performance for second place, while race 1 victor Slater Smith came in third. Radhi Harris, Caleb Lingeveldt, and Jake Steyn also displayed their talents.

Many of the Cape Town karting participants are now preparing for the journey to Zwartkops for the RMC National Finals scheduled for the upcoming weekend. The subsequent round of the Western Cape Championship will take place at Killarney during round 6 on September 16th.
