5 April 2025 – Vereeniging Kart Circuit

The second round of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships at Vereeniging Kart Circuit was set to deliver another action-packed day of racing—but instead, it became a day to remember for very different reasons.

A Rain-Soaked Disappointment

After a week of relentless rainfall, the track was left waterlogged and unsafe for competition. Despite every effort to prepare the circuit, the persistent downpour created treacherous conditions, and after just one session, the event was officially called off for safety reasons.

The cancellation left drivers, teams, and fans understandably disappointed, but the decision was made with the safety of competitors as the top priority.

A Shoutout to the Team

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Vereeniging Kart Circuit staff, officials, and marshals who worked tirelessly to try and get the race underway. Your dedication, despite the circumstances, was truly commendable and is deeply appreciated by the entire karting community.

MSA’s Plan to Make It Right

To ensure competitors are not left at a disadvantage in the championship standings, Motorsport South Africa (MSA) has announced a favourable solution:

  • Regional points will be awarded at the Vereeniging National event on 26 April 2025 to make up for the cancelled regional round including RMC SA bonus points.
  • The alternative of adding extra heats to the next three regional events was considered but deemed impractical with the risk of events running late in the winter months.

Scoring and fees for the upcoming National/Regional event:

  • National competitors from the Northern regions will automatically score Regional points as well as National points.
  • Regional competitors who only want to score Regional points can enter at a reduced entry fee.

This approach ensures the regional championship still meets the minimum requirement of races while still allowing for drops.

Looking Ahead

VKC is hard at work improving the drainage around the circuit to prevent a repeat of last weekend’s cancellation. With a few days of good weather behind us, we are hopeful that conditions will continue to improve. While the latest forecasts look promising, backup plans are in place should serious rain return.

In addition, the VKC team is working closely with the municipality to restore the running water supply. As a precaution, JoJo tanks and pumps are being installed to ensure facilities are fully operational for the upcoming event.

Thank you for your continued support—and as always, stay safe and RACE YOUR WAY!
