ROTAX MAX DOUBLE TROUBLE

Gauteng & Cape Regionals racing this weekend

Rotax Max Challenge Regional Karting bounces back from its Easter break with a double header of Northern Regions and Western Province meetings this Saturday 15 April. Both meetings go down simultaneously as the Gauteng karters head for their third round races at the Benoni Formula K raceway, while the Cape Town drivers compete in their second round at Killarney. Both rounds will count towards all important SARMC points.

Kian Grottis will have Bradley Liebenberg, Wayland Wyman, Dusan Radojevic and Hamza Jassat and a returning Jamie Smith on his case in the Benoni premier DD2 gearbox races, where Masters’ men, 2022 RMC Grand Finalist Eugene Brittz, and Llewellyn Sutherland will do battle. Philippe Chapat takes on Robert Fulton and others in the Vets. Moving down to the Cape, Sebastian Boyd will be out to avenge a slow start over Joseph Oelz, Jason Coetzee last time out, with Conor Hughes dicing brothers Jared and Michael Jordan at Killarney.

Charl Visser will have Ethan Stier and Matthew Wadeley’s full attention in the Cape Senior Max races, but it’s all about KC Ensor Smith having Olerato Sekudu and Kian Spies on his case at the corresponding Gauteng bout. Kent Swartz will be after more under-15 Junior Max glory over Wian Boshoff, Amani Kinyua, Georgia Lenaerts and the rest up north. Cape high school action will see Reese Koorzen chased by Jordon Wadeley and Ethan Deacon among others.

Moving on to the primary school classes, brothers Aiden and Keagan Beaumont have Cody Schultz to deal with in Killarney Mini Max, while it’s Spice Mailula against Kegan Martin and Caleb Odendaal in the Gauteng under-13 races. It is always close in under 11 Micro Max, with Rafael Da Silva, Cristian Verheul and Matthew Shuttleworth expected to be the top kids in Benoni and expect Michael Danks, Liam Wharton, Kiyaan Reddi, Michael O’Mahoney to be on form at Killarney.

Michael O’Mahoney, Jacques Lewis, Caleb Lingeveldt and Slater Smith, should feature in front of the Cape Bambino action, while Luhan De Wet, Adriaan Steyn, Caleb Rogers, Raidyn Reddy, Sebastian Shuttleworth and Lwashu Mathebula are the baby drivers to watch at Formula K.

Expect several out of town racers to make their way to Formula K too as the next round of the RMC Nationals is there in a couple of weeks. But don’t expect too many Cape kids to make that trip considering their parallel Killarney appointment. Either way, both venues can be expected to deliver some epic racing on Saturday as all of them prepare to come together for that Formula K Rotax Max National on Saturday 29 April.
